Real Estate School

An effective real estate agent needs a comprehensive knowledge of the real estate market, an understanding of what home buyers want, and well-honed skills at bringing buyers and sellers together in ways that will be satisfactory to both. Some of these skills may come naturally to you, but you’ll still need to develop them by going to real estate school and learning the ins and outs of the housing and real estate industry.

Learning to be a real estate agent or broker doesn’t require a four-year university degree. You’ll probably want to go to a more specialized school that will give you a concentrated course in the details of your chosen profession. How do you choose the real estate school that’s right for you? Here are some tips.

Is the real estate school well regarded? Ask some real estate agents in your neighborhood (perhaps the one who sold you the house that you or your parents live in) where they got their educations. They may know which schools in your area are most likely to give you the solid grounding in real estate that you need.

What is the faculty like? If the teachers at the real estate school are real estate agents themselves, that’s a good sign. You don’t want a teacher who has merely theoretical knowledge. You want a teacher who has practical experience in the real estate field itself. And, if the teachers are highly successful real estate agents in their own rights, it’s all the better. If you’re going to learn from a pro, it should be a successful pro.

Where is the real estate school located? Unless you live in a rural area, there’s probably a real estate school not far from where you live. But, is it the school you want to go to? Try to find a school that doesn’t require a long commute, but if it takes a one- or two-hour drive to get to the school of your choice, the extra commuting time may be worth it if the school is high quality.

What is the cost of tuition? A good real estate school may be fairly expensive. Consider taking out a loan to afford it if you can’t pay for it out of pocket. It may even be possible to get an education loan from the government. Once you begin selling houses, though, you’ll find that the extra selling knowledge that you pick up at a top-notch real estate school is well worth it.
