What kinds of jobs could you find in the oil and gas careers field? You could work in administration at companies involved with oil and gas. You could work on a drilling team that brings the oil and gas to the surface of the planet. You could work on environmental jobs to make sure the oil and gas is captured in a way that does minimum damage to the ecology of the region from which the oil and gas are being removed. You could build pipelines to carry the oil to its destination or operate tankers that carry large quantities of oil and gas from continent to continent. Your choice of oil and gas careers could involve working at a refinery, where the raw oil and gas are transformed from their naturally occurring form to a form that can be used as fuel. Or, you could work at a company that sells the oil and gas to the end users, who will use it to run machinery.

There is a word of warning necessary here. Although oil and gas careers will be around for a long time to come, they will not be around forever. There is a limited quantity of oil and gas left in the Earth, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to find it and bring it to the surface. Furthermore, there is inevitable ecological damage resulting from oil and gas use, including pollution released from burning these substances to release energy.

Eventually, oil and gas will be replaced by other means of generating energy, with solar power being the most likely to be significant in the future. (Nuclear power is another option, but fears of accidents involving the plants and the technical difficulties involved in using nuclear fusion may limit its role in the future.) So, while oil and gas careers are strong now and will remain so for some decades to come, there is no guarantee that this career path will be around as long as you are. But while it lasts, it can be extremely lucrative.
