Insurance Careers

The insurance industry is a large field, and there are many different insurance careers within it. You can become involved with health insurance, term life insurance, whole life insurance, automobile insurance, home insurance, casualty insurance, fire insurance, theft insurance, liability insurance, and many far more specialized forms of insurance, far more than we can mention in this article. Just being an agent who sells these types of insurance is a career in itself, but there are far more insurance careers than that.

Insurance can be thought of as a form of legalized gambling, one that is vitally important to the functioning of society. It is on this gamble that insurance careers are based. The insurance company bets that paying you back for some unforeseen circumstance such as illness or an accident will cost them less than you will pay them in premiums. You, in turn, are betting that the premiums that you pay will be cheaper than the costs of treating the illness or repairing the results of the accident. At the very least, the premiums that you pay will prevent you from having sudden catastrophic costs in the event of an emergency, costs that could drive you to bankruptcy and ruin the plans that you have for your life.

Because the insurance industry needs to know just how much money it should gamble on you, one of the most important of insurance careers is that of actuary. This is the person who calculates what the insurance company is likely to have to pay you, which helps them determine how much to charge you in premiums. Another crucial insurance career is the claims adjuster, who investigates insurance claims to determine how much the insurance company really owes and whether any form of insurance fraud is involved.

And, of course, all insurance companies need management. Many insurance careers involve sitting in an office pushing papers and making phone calls. This may not sound exciting, but it pays well and leaves a great deal of room for career advancement, perhaps even to the top management levels at an insurance company.

Insurance careers are important jobs, and they could provide you with a lifetime of work. The insurance industry has been around for a long time and will be around for quite a while into the future. Insurance will always be needed, and if you have an insurance career, you will always have a job.
